Interviews: Q&A with Ward 1 Councillor Candidates – The Issues, Managing Change and Divisions

2a. What do you see as the top issues facing the County as a whole and Ward 1 in particular?

Responses:
John MacAlpine: Response not yet received.
Willie Morley:
County As A Whole – we need to come up with creative ways to generate income and efficiencies in the County. We can then use the surplus to replenish our Infrastructure Reserves, which are currently only at approximately $750,000. We need to think about where we are going and what costs will be associated. If we do not have reserves then the costs will be passed onto the residents as large tax increases.
Our Ward 1 – Three areas of concern continue to surface as I talk to people.
1. Parking in the downtown core, it is insufficient, cumbersome, and creates safety concerns.
2. Responsible growth and development that fits in with the existing community. 3. Increasing housing for seniors in our community.
Nick Quail: Response not yet received.
John Wheat: No response provided.

2b. Divisions are developing in Wards on how to handle significant changes that are coming with the current and planned growth in the County. How would you along with the new Council work to mitigate residents’ concerns and divisions?

Responses:
John MacAlpine: Response not yet received.
Willie Morley: No response submitted.
Nick Quail: Response not yet received.
John Wheat: As far as divisions in the County, personally do not see that as a major problem. Some people see divisions but nothing that cannot be overcome.
